Loaves & Fishes Outreach Ministries (L&F) serves vulnerable individuals in two of Albany’s most economically challenged communities. At the heart of our mission is a weekly meal program— but what we offer goes far beyond food. We extend dignity, connection, and care to those who need it most.
The reality of poverty in these neighborhoods is stark. With one in three Albany residents living below the poverty line, food insecurity is not just a hardship—it’s a daily struggle, a public health crisis, and a profound injustice. It strips our neighbors of health, opportunity, and the dignity every person deserves.
Our ministry is rooted in compassion and powered entirely by volunteers from sponsoring parishes across the diocese—including St. Paul’s. Their dedication allows us to nourish both body and spirit, week after week.
Every Saturday, we:
- Serve hot, nutritious meals prepared with care and respect
- Distribute clean, seasonal clothing and essential items
- Connect guests to support services that uplift, empower, and educate
- Celebrate community, fostering belonging and hope
We currently serve an average of 400 meals and distribute 130 pantry bags each week. Since the pandemic began, demand has surged—our annual meal count rose from just under 6,000 in 2019 to over 19,000 in 2024. In 2025, we expect to surpass 21,000 meals served.
This work is only possible because of volunteers. If you feel called to serve, we would be honored to welcome you. Whether you can offer a full day or just a few hours, your presence and helping hands will make a meaningful difference—to us, and to the neighbors we serve.
Serving on Saturdays 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 pm at St. Francis Mission, 498 Clinton Ave., Albany, NY, 12206.
